Treatments
Joint Injections
Corticosteroid Injections
Steroid injections are a trusted option for managing joint inflammation and pain in sport horses. By delivering anti-inflammatory medication directly into affected joints, steroid injections help reduce discomfort, improve mobility, and support recovery from training-related stress or injury. This targeted approach provides fast relief and enhances performance, allowing equine athletes to stay competitive and comfortable.
Hyaluronic Acid
Gold Coast Equine offers Hyvisc and Hyalvet, two advanced hyaluronic acid-based treatments that support joint health and mobility in equine athletes. Designed to reduce joint inflammation and provide lasting lubrication, these injections are ideal for managing joint stress and improving comfort in active horses. As part of our comprehensive sports medicine program, Hyvisc and Hyalvet help maintain peak performance and extend your horse’s athletic career.
Arthramid
Arthramid is a veterinary product used in horses to treat joint issues, particularly osteoarthritis. It is an intra-articular injection, meaning it is administered directly into the affected joint. Arthramid contains a substance called polyacrylamide hydrogel, which is intended to provide long-lasting joint support by improving joint lubrication and cushioning. The product is used to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and potentially slow down the progression of osteoarthritis in horses.
Regenerative Therapies
Gold Coast Equine is proud to be one of only two veterinary clinics in Northern California that offer RenoVō®. RenoVō® is a liquid, acellular, equine amniotic tissue allograft comprised of amnion and amniotic fluid, intended to supplement and protect tissues. Amnion and amniotic fluid are rich sources of biologically active factors involved in tissue regeneration with reported anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, re-epithelialization, and anti-fibrotic properties. Amniotic tissues contain key growth factors, cytokines, amino acids, hyaluronic acid, and extracellular matrix proteins recognized as intrinsic to the complex tissue healing process. RenoVō® has been used successfully to protect tissues in horses with: Chronic wounds Soft tissue injuries Orthopedic injuries
IRAP
IRAP (Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein) is an anti-inflammatory therapy targeting joint inflammation. IRAP blocks the harmful effects of the inflammatory protein IL-1, helping to slow the progression of conditions like osteoarthritis. To prepare IRAP, we incubate a sample of your horse’s blood with specialized beads to stimulate anti-inflammatory protein production. After 24 hours, the serum is extracted, yielding multiple doses of IRAP for joint injections. This therapy is ideal for horses with specific joint inflammation, poor response to standard anti-inflammatories, and horses that have had arthroscopic surgery and have been found to have focal cartilage diseases.
Platelet Rich Plasma PRP
PRP therapy is an advanced regenerative treatment for tendon and ligament injuries in horses. Platelets, the smallest blood cells, play a crucial role in healing by releasing growth factors at injury sites. Through a centrifuge process, a high concentration of platelets is isolated and injected directly into the affected area to promote faster recovery. PRP therapy has shown promising results in treating tendon injuries, suspensory desmitis, and similar conditions.
Prostride
Pro-Stride is a regenerative therapy for horses that is used to manage joint issues, particularly osteoarthritis. It is a regenerative medicine therapy that combines autologous protein solution (APS) with concentrated platelet-rich plasma (cPRP). The process involves drawing a small amount of the horse's blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets and growth factors, and then injecting the resulting solution into the affected joint.
Alpha 2EQ
Alpha 2EQ is an advanced regenerative therapy designed to reduce inflammation and support healing in sport horses. Using concentrated anti-inflammatory proteins derived from the horse’s own blood, Alpha 2EQ targets specific inflammatory proteins responsible for joint pain and tissue damage. This therapy helps alleviate discomfort, improves mobility, and promotes faster recovery from training stress or injury. As a natural, drug-free solution, Alpha 2EQ is an effective option for maintaining long-term joint health and peak performance in equine athletes.
Stem Cells
Stem cell therapy is a cutting-edge treatment in equine sports medicine, designed to promote healing and enhance recovery in performance horses. Stem cells, harvested from the horse’s own tissue—either bone marrow or fat—are injected into injured tendons, ligaments, or joints to accelerate repair at a cellular level. This regenerative therapy reduces inflammation, improves tissue strength, and helps restore functionality, making it an invaluable option for treating injuries and chronic conditions in equine athletes. Stem cell therapy supports faster recovery and long-term soundness, allowing performance horses to return to peak condition.
Adjunctive Treatment Modalities
Shockwave
Gold Coast Equine offers shockwave therapy, an advanced treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing in soft tissues, tendons, and ligaments. This non-invasive therapy promotes circulation, reduces pain, and accelerates tissue repair, making it highly beneficial for sport horses recovering from injuries or dealing with chronic conditions. Shockwave therapy is an effective option to keep equine athletes at their peak by enhancing recovery and supporting long-term joint and muscle health.

Acupuncture
Equine acupuncture is a proven therapy in sports medicine, offering numerous benefits for performance horses. By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture enhances circulation, relieves pain, and promotes natural healing processes. Dr. Greenbank specializes in equine acupuncture, tailoring treatments to address musculoskeletal pain, joint stiffness, and recovery from injuries. This holistic approach helps optimize performance, improve flexibility, and support the overall well-being of equine athletes, ensuring they stay at their competitive best.
Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is an advanced treatment used in equine sports medicine to manage pain and improve performance. This minimally invasive technique involves injecting small doses of anti-inflammatory or analgesic medications directly into the middle layer of the skin along specific areas of the horse’s body. Ideal for addressing musculoskeletal pain, such as back soreness or chronic conditions, mesotherapy helps reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and promote healing in targeted regions.
Farrier Services
Farrier Consultation
At Gold Coast Equine, we work collaboratively with farriers to assess your horse’s individual needs and conditions. Our equine podiatry appointments begin with a physical examination and a set of digital radiographs. Following a thorough discussion of our discoveries with both you and your farrier, we can collaboratively formulate a plan aimed at alleviating discomfort, enhancing performance, and addressing the root cause of your horse's hoof issues. We highly recommend extending an invitation to your farrier for your horse's appointment at our facility. This enables Dr. Myers to collaborate directly with you and your farrier, facilitating the development and implementation of a comprehensive treatment plan.
Therapeutic Shoeing
At Gold Coast Equine, we offer corrective shoeing services designed specifically for sport horses, led by our in-house farrier, Brian Graham. With combined expertise in equine biomechanics and sports medicine, Dr. Myers and Brian Graham work together to develop customized shoeing plans that optimize hoof health, correct structural imbalances, and enhance athletic performance. From alleviating lameness and joint issues to improving movement efficiency, our corrective shoeing services address the unique demands of sport horses, ensuring lasting comfort, resilience, and support for peak performance.
